Detailed description of Nags Head Golf Links

Nags Head Golf Links, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Nags Head, North Carolina.

Nags Head Golf Links first opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Bob Moore.

Nags Head is a a true Scottish links style championship course nestled into the natural, windswept environment of the Outer Banks.

Keeping with the true Scottish links tradition Bob moore blended the Outer Banks natural windswept environment into a shot maker's course. Coastal winds add to the challenge, prompting Golf Digest to call the Links "the longest 6,126 yards you'll ever play," when featured in 1991.

Nags Head Golf Links measures 6126 yards from the back tees and has a slope rating of 130 and a course rating of 68.8 USGA. Par for the course is 71. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens at Nags Head Golf Links are bermuda grass and the fairways are bermuda grass.

I thought for the price it was no big deal. Some of the holes on the water side were nice but some of the hole were blind short to greens with trees and bushes blocking your view. I really the price was expensive for the course. there are other courses in the Nags Head area I would rather play.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

A fun challenge, especially when the wind blows. Great views of the sound. You can shoot really low when you're "on" or really high when you're "off".

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level

First, the price: it is a resort area, so be prepared to pay a premium rate: I played on the "Afternoon" rate for $95, mornings were much more. However, this is a wonderful golf course, and would get high prices wherever it was located.

Layout is just perfect for the terrain, with lots of intriguing vistas, and serious danger only a foot off the fairways. I am a 15 handicap, and I shot an 88...but lost 8 balls in the process! Previous rater was absolutely right on when he suggested purchase of a yardage book, it would have helped me immensely.

Design is excellent: tee boxes are generally very wide and flat. Fairways are sculpted, with lots of swales and fingers of vegetation creeping in, so the perception from the tee is that they are very restrictive: that turns out not to be the case for the most part, as the architect has cleverly made the sight lines intimidating. There are a few blind tee shots, so plan ahead: drive up and scope it out before hitting. It is much more important to be straight than to be long on this course. Bunkers are plentiful (lots of sand at the beach!!), and were in good shape. Greens are gerally pretty large, and tend to be multi-level: I thought they putted medium fast.

Staff was very nice, especially in the pro shop. The folks in the bar also provided excellent service. Overall, this is a delightful course, and I unhesitatingly urge all to give it a try.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area

Target golf layout. Not long but the wind factor adds 300-500 yds. Be sure to get a yardage book or bring a GPS. Fun layout, will use all clubs in your bag. Pricey but worth it every 2-3 years.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
